I've got one with almost 5,000 hrs on it. Great machine. A real Work Horse. I put a Kunkle Valve on it about 5 years ago,...no problems and great vacum.

As far as the machine you're looking at, How it has been maintained will be the big question. A poorly maintained Sizzler may be wore out at 3,200 hrs. A well maintained Sizzler might go 8,000 hrs or more. I've heard of Sizzlers going over 12,000 hrs.

They are simple and dependable machines.

Too bad they are no longer making them.

Mike, i prefer the firehouse grill.
it is at a dealer and the guy said it looks like it is in over all good condition. it is a 6 hour drive from here so it's not like i can say i'll be over in a min.

If it's well maintained, buy it. I owned a couple of Sizzlers. Both had several thousand hours on them when they were sold and still ran like new. The 36 sizzler was Steam Genies most reliable machine. I thought they were 18hp though... Either way, Steam Genie units are excellent!

If it's in good shape like the guy says,...just buy it. At $2,500 it will pay for itself in a couple weeks. After that it's all gravy. Sure beats paying $20,000 for a new machine.

Like Gary said it will depend on the tools and jets you use as far as temps go. With standard #6 jets you will have good heat. Mine usually runs around 180°. In hot weather it will exceed 200°,...in the cold of winter it will top out at 150°. So, it depends.

The blower is rated at 280 cfm I think. The 36 is real close to a #4 in performance. It will have more power if you set the rpm's at 3,000 instead of the recomended 2,600.

Also a Kunkle Valve will work wonders on that machine. Well worth the $169 price tag.

I think that is the type unit the guy a learned from ran 10 yrs ago. He did not do any maintance to my nowledge. Probably had 8000 hrs or more.

He ran that thing 5 days a week and about every nite. Had some good heat.

If you have the money to buy it and some change for some nickel and dime repairs, go for it. If it last atleast a yr it is worth it. I would atleast drive a truck and go check it out.

For that price & if it runs good. I would buy it. Check the compression. It should have a 18 or 20 hp. onan. they run along time. SG made good TMs.

what kind of compression? numbers wise.

thanks, Jerad

Sizzler 36's came with Onan 16 hp Performers.

The 45's had the 20hp onan

Check the compression in both cylinders and make sure they are equal. If one cylinder is noticably lower then the other there's a problem.

As Tom stated, they must be equal and I think 110 psi is the safe range.

Jerad from what I have heard and witnessed Steam Genie made great
equipment. The one you are considering
is one heck of a unit if it is running good.

As far as specs are if I remember
correctly were 14HG vacuum at about
250 cfm(more if you increase rpm)but vacuum is sufficient.
The Onan 16 hp of those days can be
rebuilt and are better than the throw aways we have today.
The solution pump is a Hypro 3 piston
and is easily rebuildable.
I belive their frame and tanks are
stainless steal.
They used a Little Giant 3ht propane heater which has 120,000 btu's ; It is set to run at 190 to 200 degrees.
