"Although a part marking issue during ultrasonic welding can have many different causes and cures, there are some basic steps to reduce this damage. Marking is typically caused by:
* welding for too long a time
* welding more than the designed interface allows
* too little vibrational energy (amplitude) causing weld times that are too long
* an improper fit of the ultrasonic horn to the part or parts, so the horn is striking an uneven surface.
"Experimentation should consist of trying higher and lower weld forces and times; more amplitude through the use of higher booster ratios to increase amplitude; and a close investigation of the horn-to-part-interface to check for warpage, sink marks or other irregularities."
